My brother Joe and I began our road trip just trying to get the heck out of Florida. We both live in the southern part of the state and the distance to our first stop in Marianna, Florida, which is very close to the Georgia border, took us almost eight hours (approximately 545 miles). We rented a Nissan Sentra for the trip and departed on Monday, May 12th, 2025 at 5:30am. From Miami we took the Florida Turnpike north to I-75 and then turned west onto I-10 until we reached Marianna. Our purpose in going to this town was to visit the Florida Caverns State Park nearby. A co-worker of mine told me years earlier that he and his family toured the caverns there and I was immediately intrigued. I had no idea my state even had caverns, being so flat and close to sea level. My brother and I had tickets for the last scheduled tour of the cave system at 4:00pm. Another thing I didn't know until we got to Marianna was that it sits in a different time zone. The following pictures were taken on the cavern tour. After seeing the caves we also trekked the Bluff Trail, one of several hiking paths within this state park. We spent the night at the Days Inn in Marianna before continuing on to Atlanta the following morning.
