Cruising and Driving in the U.S.A. (2026)

The Grand Canyon of Yellowstone National Park

My brother Joe and I took another road trip this year, adding  a one-week cruise to Alaska. We flew into Seattle for two days and then boarded the Carnival Spirit cruise ship and headed towards Skagway, Alaska, which was the furthest point we reached before heading back to Seattle, stopping along the way at the Alaskan ports of Skagway, Juneau and Ketchikan and making a brief stop in Victoria, British Columbia. From Seattle we rented an SUV and then embarked on a nine-day road trip that took us across the entire state of Washington to Spokane, through the pan-handle region of Idaho, into Montana and then down through Wyoming with our final stop in Salt Lake City, Utah. We visited six states on this 19-day odyssey, traversing through so many beautiful national parks I can't remember them all, but among them were Glacier National Park, Yellowstone National Park and the Grand Tetons National Park. Unlike last year's road trip, which focused on American history and culture, this journey took us, for the most part, to see some of the natural wonder and beauty of our country. The only major cities we visited were Seattle, Spokane and Salt Lake City. All great places to visit! The rest of the time we spent our nights in lodges, cabins and inns located in rural areas near national parks. I can't even begin to describe the sheer wonder of Alaska or the American Northwest, we saw so many incredible landscapes from rocky mountain ranges to evergreen mountains to deserts, canyons and flat farm and prairie lands as far as the eye can see. I only hope my pictures do justice to the terrain.
