By Day 15 we had already completed the two main aspects of our road trip, which were to travel from Miami all the way to Minneapolis, and then drive south along the Great River Road to New Orleans. From this point forward we were simply trying to get back to Miami where the journey began. But the distance from New Orleans to Miami was approximately 865 miles with a projected travel time of nearly 12.5 hours. Joe had done all the driving on this trip thus far. And it's not that I didn't offer to drive, either; Joe just didn't have confidence in my motoring skills. He knew I had no sense of direction (despite being a retired mailman) and can get lost on a dead end street, so it was prudent that he take the wheel. We decided to break up the last leg of the road trip into two days, spending the first night in Tallahassee, Florida before continuing on to Miami the following morning. We drove out of the State of Louisiana from New Orleans on US Highway 10, stopping for 1.5 hours to play a little baccarat at the Beau Rivage Resort and Casino in Biloxi, Mississippi. This beautiful property overlooks the Gulf of Mexico (or the Gulf of America if you're a MAGA supporter). We won a few more dollars -- which paid for lunch and gas -- before heading east again. In Mobile, Alabama we stopped to visit the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park located just a few minutes off of US Highway 10. The stated mission of the park is to honor the Alabamians who participated so valiantly in all of America's armed conflicts. It is a military history park and museum featuring the retired USS Alabama battleship and the USS Drum submarine, both of which are National Historic Landmarks. But it just wasn't the battleship and submarine, it also houses an assortment of helicopters, warplanes, tanks and artillery dating back to the beginning of the last century. My brother and I were like two little boys 'ohhhing' and 'ahhhing' over all the cool military stuff at the park. We spent more than two hours here lost in the amazing history presented by all the military exhibits. From here we entered the State of Florida a short time later and proceeded to Tallahassee where we spent the night at a Red Roof Inn.
